Among the likes of Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Regé-Jean Page, and Jacob Elordi, Cillian Murphy has joined the growing list of potential James Bond hopefuls.
The 47-year-old who is currently contending for Best Actor at Sunday’s Oscars ceremony gained worldwide acclaim for his lead role in the Oppenheimer blockbuster.
As well as impressing viewers across the globe, his portrayal is said to have caught the eye of Bond bosses who are reportedly still searching for Daniel Craig’s replacement.
According to The Sun, a source claimed: “Cillian is the toast of Hollywood right now and this would be the ultimate role.
“This is a way to elevate the Bond franchise with an actor who is at the very top of his game.”

Clay continued: “We forget that sometimes Bond is like the character [Ian] Fleming created, a pretty dark character.
“He just happens to be on the side that we call good. Cillian has that ability to tap into that.”
This comes just weeks after he triumphed over Bradley Cooper, Colman Domingo, Paul Giamatti, Barry Keoghan and Teo Yoo for Best Actor at the 2024 BAFTA Awards.
After being presented with the trophy by Cate Blanchett, Cillian paid tribute to his family and said: “To Yvonne, Malachy and Aran you are my best friend and I love you so much.”
