Another commented: “I clean the basics every morning. It’s part of my AM routine, I barely even think about it. It’s easier to clean for 30 minutes every day than for hours every few days.”
A third said: “Never put things in a spot other than where they should ultimately go. Example: Done with you plate from dinner? Put it in the dishwasher rather than the sink for 2 days and creating a stockpile that you later put in the dishwasher all at once.
“This stops some of your chores from growing to the point you dread doing them.”
One user commented: “Nothing that can rot or stink is left out. Dishes scraped off and ready for washing. Pop cans and bottles rinsed out. Dirty laundry in the hamper.
“I keep on top of those things, and other stuff isn’t pressing. I don’t NEED to stay ahead of sweeping. I don’t NEED to put a box from the closet back.”
Another person admitted they used a form of distraction to help with the chore, they said: “I make a podcast round per day. I choose a podcast of 30 min to an hour and in this time I move cleaning things nonstop. It’s a little game with myself. Let’s see what I can clean in this time. For me all sorts of gamification works.
“Also: I wash the dishes or clean the kitchen while I wait for the toaster, the kettle, the coffee machine to be finished.”
And finally someone commented: “Almost always clean from the top down.
“If you clean the floor before you wipe down surfaces you are gonna get the floor dirty by inevitably wiping stuff back onto the floor you just cleaned which is inefficient and a waste of time. This applies to most cleaning tasks.”
