A 36-year-old sex offender on parole was arrested Monday after he allegedly broke into a woman’s El Cajon apartment while she was home and stole her purse, according to police.
Officers received a report around 10:20 a.m. that a thief had been confronted by the resident in the unit on Magnolia Avenue near Washington Avenue, said El Cajon police Lt. Keith MacArthur in a news release.
The man fled the scene as the victim’s daughter called 911, MacArthur said.
Police located the alleged burglar a short distance away and found that he was in possession of keys from the apartment complex’s property management office, officials said.
He was booked into San Diego Central Jail on suspicion of violating his parole, burglary and narcotic possession. He is a registered sex offender who had been released from jail on Feb. 22, police said.
