San Diego County District 4 supervisor candidates Monica Montgomery Steppe and Amy Reichert will be speaking to East County residents Wednesday at a free public forum.
The hour-long event at Cuyamaca College will be one of the last public forums held ahead of the Nov. 7 special election.
Montgomery Steppe, a San Diego City Council member, and Reichert, a ReOpen San Diego leader, are facing off for the seat vacated by Nathan Fletcher in May, after a lawsuit accused him of sexual misconduct.
In the August primary, Montgomery Steppe, a Democrat, finished 13 points ahead of Reichert, a Republican. Two other candidates finished behind them.
The central San Diego district represents a population of about 675,000 residents, covering an area of 101 square miles from North Clairemont to Rancho San Diego.
At Wednesday’s forum, the two finalists for the seat will discuss issues of concern to East County residents.
At a debate earlier this month, the candidates spoke about some of the region’s most polarizing issues, including homelessness and housing.
Wednesday’s forum will be moderated by the League of Women Voters and sponsored by the Grossmont-Mt. Helix Improvement Association and the Casa de Oro Alliance.
The event will begin at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday with a candidate meet and greet, followed by the forum beginning at 7 p.m.
It will be held at the Samuel M. Ciccati Performing Arts Center at Cuyamaca College, located at 900 Rancho San Diego Parkway in El Cajon. Parking and admission are free.
Attendees are encouraged to submit questions to the Grossmont-Mt. Helix Improvement Association ahead of time via email at yourgmianeighbor@gmail.com.
