The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) is set to issue bonus payments to households when temperatures plunge to a certain level.
If you’re claiming specific means-tested benefits and experience seven consecutive days of cold weather in the UK between 1st November 2024 and 31st March 2025, you could be eligible for a DWP Cold Weather Payment.
This £25 grant, provided by the DWP, aims to assist individuals during the cost of living crisis in extremely cold periods when heating bills are typically higher.
Some regions were eligible for three separate Cold Weather Payments during the 2023/2024 scheme, equating to £75 per household.
Eligible recipients will receive a £25 payment for every seven consecutive days where the temperature in their area is recorded as 0°C or below.
You’ll receive £25 a week for every seven days of cold weather between November and March. The 2024 to 2025 Cold Weather Payment scheme commenced on 1st November 2024.
These payments are automatically made to those claiming one of several DWP benefits, including Pension Credit, Income Support, Job Seekers Allowance, or Universal Credit.
To determine eligibility, the DWP uses special equipment to measure temperatures across all UK postcodes, reports BirminghamLive.
Anyone who does not receive a payment and disagrees with the DWP’s decision has the right to appeal.
Those eligible for a Cold Weather Payment should automatically receive their £25 from the DWP, with no application required. This payment should be deposited into the same bank or building society account where claimants receive their benefit payments or state pension.
It will be delivered within 14 working days of the initial seven-day cold period. Those who believe they are eligible for a Cold Weather Payment but have not received it are urged to contact the DWP.
