EasyJet passengers have been urged to take note of how the hold bag allowances work after a customer raised a query about the rules.
The individual contacted the airline over X to ask: “If I have purchased a baggage allowance of 26kg for my flight, can I split this over two suitcases?”
EasyJet responded to confirm this would not be an option, explaining: “Please be advised if you booked one hold bag, you will have to bring only one hold bag.”
The standard hold bag allowance is up to 23kg but you can buy extra weight in 3kg units, up to the maximum of 32kg.
However, you can also go for a 15kg bag if you are going on a short break and only need a few items in your hold luggage.
Each customer, including children and infants, can buy space for up to three hold bags. Family or friends travelling together have the option to pool their total weight allowance for the flight.
Information on the easyJet website states: “This means that the total weight allowance can be split among the total number of bags booked, as long as no single item weighs more than 32kg. Maximum total size (length + width + height) = under 275cm.”
Each passenger can also take on board one small cabin bag for free. This can be of a maximum size of 45 x 36 x 20 cm, including any handle and wheels.
There is also the option to bring a large cabin bag on board, with maximum size 56 x 45 x 25 cm including any handles and wheels.
If you book a large bag, you will also get the benefit of speedy boarding. You can only take up to two cabin bags per person on a flight, including one small bag and one large bag.
EasyJet issued an update on Sunday, December 29, after several flights from Gatwick Airport were cancelled due to heavy fog.
A spokesperson said: “Due to ongoing poor weather conditions resulting in air traffic control restrictions and delays at London Gatwick today, some flights this evening are now unable to operate as planned.
“We are doing all we can to minimise the impact of the weather for our customers, providing options to rebook or a refund for cancelled flights, as well as hotel accommodation and meals where required.”
In the event your flight is cancelled, you can switch to another one for free. The easyJet website explains: “If you’re already at the airport, you’ll need to collect any checked luggage from baggage claim and clear customs, then re-start your journey by checking in again with your new booking and re-clearing security.
“Please note that you can only select flights to or from the same countries as you had originally booked.”
