Elvis Presley was drafted into the United States Army in 1958, placing his career largely on hold.
After two years in the force, he finally returned to civilian life, and he was excited to get back to his old ways. He instantly signed up for a new movie, GI Blues (which hits BBC 2 at 1pm today), to celebrate his army career coming to an end and the beginning of what would be a long stretch of film releases.
But, in classic Elvis Presley fashion, he couldn’t help but get to know his colleagues very well.
When actress and dancer Juliet Prowse sauntered onto the set, Elvis was instantly attracted to her.
Years later, Juliet confirmed what was going on behind the scenes during the GI Blues filming.

Juliet confirmed: “Elvis and I had an affair.”
She went on to add that Elvis’ fame was the most painful part of their relationship, as they had to hide everything about their connection from everyone around them.
“We had a sexual attraction like two healthy young people, but he was already a victim of his fans,” she said. “We always met in his room and never went out.”
Between takes and scenes, Elvis and Juliet were reportedly running off to his room together to get better acquainted.
However, things were made more scandalous by the relationships each star was harbouring at home.
Elvis was with Priscilla Presley (Beaulieu, at the time), who was back in Graceland while Elvis was shooting the movie.
Juliet was still with her long-term boyfriend, as well: Frank Sinatra.
She first met Ol’ Blue Eyes the year before while they were filming the musical movie Can-Can.
Their relationship was intense and intimate; Frank often brought Juliet to Las Vegas to watch him perform to sold out crowds.
He even proposed to her two years later in 1962 – but things fizzled out.
“I was as much flattered as I was in love,” she explained. “He was a complex person, and after a few drinks he could be very difficult.”
