A warning has been issued to all EE customers after the mobile network has scrapped a money-saving deal.
The mobile provider has axed its £25 roaming deal which means customers will now have to pay as much as £74 for a 30-day holiday abroad while staying on its network.
Customers could previously get a £25 ‘Roam Abroad’ monthly pass that offered extra data for using their phone on holiday in 47 European destinations, as well as in the USA, Canada, Mexico, Australia and New Zealand.
Now these passes have been scrapped, customers will pay £2.47 per day to use their data in Europe, or £74 for a 30-day trip -£50 more than with the previous deal.
Customers heading abroad for a fortnight will face charges of £34.58 to use their data in Europe – £958 more expensive than with the Roam Abroad pass.
The changes will only really benefit customers who are holidaying for less than 10 days, as they will pay less overall than buying the previous Roam Abroad pass for £25.
EE has said it will introduce a new seven-day roaming pass in the future, but hasn’t yet confirmed when it will be available.
The seven-day EU Pass will cost £15 which means if you’re heading abroad for 14 days you’ll have to pay £30 to use your data. This option is slightly cheaper than paying the daily rate of £2.47, but it’s still £5 more than the old Roam Abroad pass.
EE has also changed its pricing for data roaming for locations further afield, including the USA, Canada, Mexico, Australia and New Zealand.
Customers will need to pay £5 per day to use data in ‘Zone 1’ locations, or select a seven-day rolling pass for £35. Zone 2 locations will face a daily charge of £7.50 per day, or £37.50 for a weekly rolling pass, while Zone 3 locations will be charged £7.50 per day with no option for a weekly pass.
A charge of £15 will apply to Zone 4 locations and again there is no option for a seven-day rolling pass.
An EE spokesperson said: “EU roaming is not impacted by our rest of world roaming update. We’re improving the roaming products for rest of world countries as well as rest of the world zones to give our customers more options and better value.”
