A fire at a Borrego Springs golf course caused around $2 million in damage to the country club early Monday, fire officials said.
The blaze was reported shortly after 1 a.m. at the De Anza Country Club on Catarina Drive, said Cal Fire Capt. Brent Pascua. He said the blaze destroyed about 75 percent of the building, including a restaurant, ballroom and office space. The club’s pro shop was saved, he said.
More than 60 firefighters responded to the fire, which did not spread to nearby vegetation. The cause was unknown, Pascua said.
County Supervisor Jim Desmond, who represents Borrego Springs, posted on social media on Monday in response to the fire. “My heart goes out to the Borrego Springs community after the devastating fire at De Anza Country Club this morning,” he said on X, formerly known as Twitter. “Grateful for the heroic efforts of Cal Fire San Diego to ensure no injuries. My office will be doing all we can to support and assist the residents during this challenging time.”
The golf course has been in operation since 1957.
