This week’s episode of Queen The Greatest Live showcases the band’s iconic opening to their 1986 Magic Tour.
This would be Freddie Mercury’s last set of live concerts with Brian May, Roger Taylor and John Deacon, before his HIV diagnosis and death from AIDS-related illness in 1991.
Having given probably their greatest-ever performance at 1985’s Live Aid, the band announced The Magic Tour across the UK and nine European countries.
Roger Taylor said at the time: “I think we’re probably the best live band in the world at the moment, and we’re going to prove it. No one who comes to see us will be disappointed.”
The Magic Tour would feature the most elaborate lighting set-up and the most expensive stage production ever undertaken by Queen.
Out went the previous show opening of Machines and in can the band’s only single of the previous year, One Vision, to kick things off.
In this week’s video Freddie and the gang are captured at their Budapest show, following up their first track with the show staple Tie Your Mother Down.
Next week’s episode of Queen The Greatest Live looks back at Dragon Attack.
