Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire has now been released in cinemas, and fans will want to know if there’s an extra scene after the credits. Check out our verdict on the film here.
Paul Rudd teams back up with the classic heroes Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Ernie Hudson and Annie Potts in this action-packed sequel to 2021’s Ghostbusters: Afterlife.
In the brand-new adventure, the Spengler family face a terrifying new threat that could put New York City on ice.
The franchise’s beloved characters all make a return in this ghostly romp, but viewers will be wondering if there’s any links to another sequel after the credits.
So, should fans stick around once the Ghostbusters have wrapped up their latest haunting?
Does Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire have post-credits scenes?
Luckily for die-hard fans, there is a scene during the credits of Ghostbuster: Frozen Empire.
The latest film follows the trend following Afterlife teasing this sequel in 2021.
At the end of the fourth film in the franchise, a mid-credits and post-credits scene teases the ‘Busters return to New York, and also confirms Peter Venkman (played by Murray) has married Dana Barrett (Sigourney Weaver).
Frozen Empire will also have a mid-credits scene, but there’s no bonus right at the end of the credits.
What happens in the Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire mid-credits scene?
Turn away now if you don’t want spoilers. The mid-credits scene appears just after the main cast has been credited, so you won’t have to stick around for too long.
In it, the miniature Stay-Puft marshmallow critters cause more chaos after being introduced in Afterlife and making another appearance in Ray Stantz’s (Aykroyd) book and curiosity shop.
Following the defeat of an ancient ghost god named Garraka, New York is no longer frozen over.
A trucker is seen parking at a gas station and, when he turns his back to put some change in a machine, the mini-marshmallows hijack his vehicle and drive off.
Does the mid-credits scene set up a sequel?
As none of the main characters make an appearance, it’s safe to assume this stinger isn’t setting up a sequel.
However, there’s a chance the Stay Pufts’ mischief with the truck could be followed up in the next film in the background of the main plot.
A third film in the reboot hasn’t been confirmed yet, although the door is always open if Frozen Empire performs well at the box office.
Director Gil Kenan has shared that multiple ideas for future instalments have been discussed, but fans will have to keep their fingers crossed for now.
