Halifax has issued an update to confirm a service is coming to an end this year.
A person contacted Halifax and Lloyds Bank over social media to ask: “Is it true we will be unable to deposit cheques in Post Office branches from December 31 this year?”
Halifax responded to confirm that this was the case. The bank also said: “Customers can continue to cash cheques using their app, in any of our branches, or via a free postal service we will be introducing later this year.”
To pay in a cheque at a Post Office branch, you’ll need to have a cheque envelope, which you can get at the Post Office or in a Halifax branch.
You also need a paying-in slip, which Halifax will need to order for you. This can be arranged in branch or over the phone.
When you pay in a cheques at the Post Office, this will take at least one additional working day to credit to your account.
When paying in cash and cheques at the same time at the Post Office, you will need a paying in slip and cheque envelope for your cheques and a separate paying in slip for your cash.
Using the app, you can pay in cheques of up to £10,000 each, or up to a total of £10,000 each day. The funds are usually available in your account the next working day.
Looking at other payment services at the Post Office, you can pay in up to £1,000 in a single deposit, using the paying in slip.
When using a paying-in slip, the money will show in your account and be available to use the next working day. Customers can also pay in cash into their account, using their debit card and PIN.
You can pay in up to £2,995 a month and up to £20,000 a year. Joint account holders can both pay in up to these limits.
You can also withdraw cash at the Post Office, taking out up to £300 a day from your current account, using your debit card and PIN.
Withdrawals are free of charge but do count towards your £800 daily ATM withdrawal limit. For example, if you withdraw £300 at the Post Office, you can only withdraw up to £500 at a cash machine.
