A helicopter experiencing engine problems made an emergency landing Sunday afternoon on a roadway just north of Escondido, authorities said.
Both people on board the private aircraft were uninjured after it touched down a little before 2:20 p.m. on North Centre City Parkway near Jesmond Dene Road, San Diego County sheriff’s Lt. Tom Fletcher said.
The helicopter landed in an area where North Centre City Parkway runs next to and parallel to Interstate 15, and the response was still causing traffic issues on the freeway more than three hours later, Fletcher said.
The flight-tracking website FlightAware showed that the helicopter was an Enstrom 280 Shark with a single piston engine. FlightAware showed the aircraft made at least one earlier flight Sunday morning, taking off around 10:20 a.m. from the Oceanside Municipal Airport and landing about 30 minutes later at the Ramona Airport.
The helicopter took off again just after 2 p.m. heading from Ramona back toward Oceanside, according to FlightAware.
No other information was immediately available.
