Lipstick can be found in a shade and formula to suit every complexion but it’s a little trickier when it comes to aged skin.
Wrinkles, dryness and fine lines are hard to cater to when it comes to makeup, but it shouldn’t put you off wearing certain products.
In fact, according to Sharon Hildtich, celebrity facialist and founder of Crystal Clear Skincare, there’s one method that can instantly transform a lacklustre pout.
Speaking exclusively to Express.co.uk, she said: “Hydration is key when applying anything to the lip area.
“As we age and we begin to notice a lack of volume of fine lines around the mouth, ensuring this area is hydrated is going to smooth out these lines, plump the skin, and prevent the lipstick we apply from seeping into any cracks.”
Sharon explained that whether its a bold red lip, creamy neutral formula or glossy product that’s being applied, there is one step she never skips out.
And she recommended it as a quick fix for anyone wanting to cheat a more youthful appearance.
The skincare expert continued: “My number one tip would be to use a lip liner to carve out the shape of the lip.
“This is going to create a really smooth guideline for the lipstick that you apply, and will also help create a really clear definition around the mouth, something that we can lose as we age.”
Of course, the area around the lips is just as important to get right when drawing attention to your pout, so Sharon suggested taking some extra time to apply foundation with care.
She explained: “More mature skin naturally has fine lines, wrinkles, and a lack of volume due to the loss of collagen that occurs as we age.
“Even when using powerful skincare products to combat the signs of ageing we still can’t fully reverse all of these signs.
“When applying foundation, we often see people swiping the product over the face with a brush – this is going to mean that it doesn’t ‘fill’ any of the fine line or wrinkles on the skin, leaving the skin looking uneven and drawing attention to these areas.”
Instead, Sharon recommended using a liquid foundation formula on top of moisturiser and primer.
She said: “I mix a little bit of moisturiser in with it too. I always use my brightening complex moisturiser and mix it with the foundation on the back of my hands.
“I start with a small amount, building in thin layers. This prevents going too heavy too fast, and ends up with the product sitting in any fine lines making them more visible.”
