Customers are reporting issues with their apps for two of the biggest banks in the UK, Lloyds Bank and Halifax, this morning.
The problems started at around 7 am, and according to real-time service monitor site Downdetector, more than 400 complaints have been logged so far.
Disgruntled customers have taken to social media platform X to share their experiences, with one stating: “I sent funds to my Lloyds bank account an hour ago and it still hasn’t been deposited normally it takes a few minutes.. what’s going on??” (SIC)
Another added: “I am having same issue. Have put my mortgage payment in and if it’s not in by 1pm it will bounce! Transferred it an hour ago!” (SIC)
Lloyds Bank has since responded to customers, acknowledging the issues and offering reassurance that they’re doing what they can to restore service.
It responded to one complaint on X: “We know some customers are having issues making or receiving payments. We’re sorry for this and are working to have everything back to normal.”
Of the reported issues, 66% of customers said they’re having trouble transferring funds, while 21% have reported problems accessing online banking. A further 13% reported issues with mobile banking.
For Halifax customers, 78% have reported trouble with transferring funds, 14% are experiencing issues with online banking, and 8% have had issues with account balances.
One customer reported that incoming payments were not showing in their account. After contacting Halifax through the app, the bank reportedly confirmed “an outage affecting faster payments”, adding the issue “will be resolved within the next 24 working hours.”
Banks are not required to reimburse customers for service outages, but those who incur direct costs due to an outage may be able to claim money back.
One Lloyds customer who had transferred funds into their account to pay bills earlier today questioned the bank about potential charges, stating: “What’s the deal? If it doesn’t get sorted today then I get charged…”
In response, Lloyds advised that customers who experience charges should contact the bank’s customer services team here.
