As banks and building societies increasingly shift services online, the number of branch closures has steadily risen in recent years. This trend is expected to continue into 2025, with Lloyds Bank planning to shut dozens more locations.
Since January 2015, banks and building societies have closed 6,214 branches, according to Which?. This equates to an average of around 53 closures each month.
The NatWest Group – encompassing NatWest, Royal Bank of Scotland, and Ulster Bank – has led the way with 1,428 branch closures, the most of any banking group.
Lloyds Banking Group, which includes Lloyds Bank, Halifax, and Bank of Scotland, has followed closely, shutting down 1,243 locations.
Lloyds Banking Group is currently set to close at least 86 more locations in 2025, and here is the full list announced so far.
