A style guru has shared a simple hairstyle trick that could help you look younger without an expensive trip to the salon. Image consultant Montserrat Varela revealed the “smallest” hairstyle tweak that could enhance a youthful look.
On her TikTok channel, she said, “I want to give you a little tip on how to make you look a little bit younger, and it’s really easy. It’s all about changing your hairstyle.” The style maven explained that certain lines and wrinkles, such as smile lines, become more pronounced with age, which can pull down your facial features. Luckily, the solution is straightforward – you need to lift your face.

While there are several methods for lifting your face, from make-up to surgical measures and anti-ageing creams, the expert revealed that your hairstyle can also do the trick.
Varela cautioned that a hairstyle that falls inward will “only drag your face” downward. She noted: “Yes, it’s going to help you appear slimmer, but it’s not going to help with these [smile] folds.
“So, what we want to do instead is go for a hairstyle that flows outward. It’s going to help lift your face. It’s the smallest change, but it makes a world of difference.”
Varela said the simple change, which could mean curling your hair away from the face, can make a “huge difference” to how you look.
Celebrity stylist Gustav Fouche also recommended smart haircuts to help hide unwanted signs of ageing.
For instance, adding a fringe could help to disguise frown lines on the forehead, but do bear in mind that a fringe will not look good on people who have a “heavy jaw.”
Fouche elaborated: “For example, if someone [has a] square [face shape], you would put a longer fringe on the face.
“Otherwise you would make the face look more square, which can make them look older, especially if they have a heavy jaw.”
Anyone suffering from jowls is also recommended to stay away from any haircuts that will fall in that area, drawing attention to the looser skin.
And this one may seem like common sense, but the colour of your hair can also help you look younger or older than you actually are.
While some people embrace a silver mane, covering greys might take years off of your look.
