The clean up after Christmas can be a dreaded task, however, a simple kitchen cupboard staple can at least make getting grease off your oven much easier.
Sprinkle a generous amount of salt on spills to prevent them from sticking to the oven, making the cleaning process pretty much effortless.
The effectiveness of this hack lies in salt’s ability to seal spills, preventing oxygen from reacting with them.
By impeding the combustion reaction, salt acts like a blanket or fire extinguisher, cutting off the oxygen supply to the spills and making them easier to clean.
This makes salt an excellent, chemical-free option for quickly and efficiently cleaning messy grease stains.

When you spot spills or bubbling over in your oven, take immediate action by pressing pause, using an oven mitt for protection, and reaching for your salt shaker.
Open the oven door, unscrew the shaker’s top, and generously apply salt to completely cover the spills. Close the door and continue cooking.
The salt, which won’t burn or produce a foul smell at your oven’s temperatures, acts as a handy solution to prevent the spills from sticking and makes cleaning up a breeze.
Once your dish is cooked and the oven has cooled, employ a scraper or microfibre cloth to effortlessly eliminate the baked crust, revealing a sparkling oven.
While some ovens offer a self-cleaning cycle, it might not be the best choice for spills primarily composed of grease, as it can result in toxic smoke.
The high temperatures often generated during the self-cleaning process can make your kitchen uncomfortably hot, particularly in the summer.
Other kitchen cupboard product concoctions like baking soda and white vinegar have previously been advised against by experts, making the salt method the most suitable hack.
Olivia Young, a cleaning expert and product development scientist at Astonish, said: “Many try to combine vinegar and baking soda when creating a DIY home cleaning solution.
“When mixed together however, this won’t help much when it comes to properly cleaning your oven.”
