A sheriff’s deputy conducting a welfare check Saturday in Borrego Springs found a 63-year-old woman stabbed to death inside a home occupied by several other people, including the victim’s son, who was later arrested on suspicion of murder, authorities said Sunday.
The woman’s daughter contacted deputies Saturday to request the welfare check at the home on Borrego Springs Road near Weather Vane Drive “because of the living conditions,” San Diego sheriff’s homicide Lt. Joseph Jarjura said in a news release.
When a deputy arrived at the home, the daughter told the deputy she saw blood inside the house, but she was unsure if her mother was there, Jarjura said. She said at least three people were inside the home, including her 41-year-old brother, Jacob Paul Guevara.
The deputy searched the home and found the victim dead from apparent stab wounds, Jarjura said. The Sheriff’s Department did not release the woman’s name. Firefighters confirmed her death at 3:15 p.m.
The deputy detained the home’s occupants before homicide detectives arrived with a warrant to search the home, according to Jarjura. After conducting an investigation, the detectives arrested Guevara on suspicion of murder and booked him into the Vista Detention Facility.
Jail records showed Guevara was being held without bail.
