A 24-year-old man accused of opening fire in a Santa Ysabel gas station, shooting off a couple rounds, was arrested Tuesday evening after a struggle with deputies, a sheriff’s lieutenant said Wednesday.
Someone reported a shooting at the Ramco Petroleum on state Route 78 just after 8:45 p.m., Lt. Matthew Carpenter said. The caller said the man opened fire, headed outside and fired off a few more shots at the store.
The first deputy at the scene arrived to find the store clerk had locked the suspected shooter outside the gas station, near the intersection of state Route 78 and state Route 79.
The man refused to comply with deputies. To subdue and arrest him, deputies employed several types of force, including firing beanbag rounds, using a stun gun and releasing a police dog, Carpenter said.
They were eventually able to arrest him, Carpenter said. He was taken to be evaluated and medically cleared before deputies booked him into jail on suspicion of several felonies, including robbery, assault with a firearm and being a felon in possession of a gun.
The man remained jailed Wednesday in lieu of $100,000.
