A man suspected of stealing a Honda Civic and leading police on a high-speed chase in the wrong direction onInterstate 15 was arrested Sunday morning, San Diego police said.
The owner of the Honda Civic called police around 1:45 a.m. to report the car had been stolen, Officer Aziz Brou said.
Brou said the car was spotted shortly after 2 a.m. on Scripps Poway Parkway, but the driver proceeded to lead officers on a chase, at one point driving south in the northbound lanes of I-15, hitting speeds in excess of 100 mph. Officers in patrol cars dropped their pursuit for safety reasons but a police helicopter continued to track the car.
The driver was eventually arrested shortly before 3 a.m. and was found to have four active warrants out for his arrest, Brou said. No other details were immediately available.
