A 25-year old man was arrested on suspicion of murder after his stepfather was stabbed to death following an argument in their Rancho Bernardo home, San Diego police said Monday.
The investigation is still in the early stages, and detectives are trying to sort out what happened before the stabbing, police homicide Lt. Steve Shebloski said.
“However, detectives have learned this case appears to be a tragic case of family violence,” Shebloski said.
Police identified the victim as Michael Johnson, 61, and the suspect as Pablo Johnson. They both live at the same home on Caminito Campana, just off Rancho Bernardo Road and east of Interstate 15,
According to Shebloski, a neighbor called 911 shortly before 6 p.m. Sunday to report that a man had been stabbed.
Officers arrived moments later and immediately detained a man in the home who they suspected was involved in the stabbing.
They then found the victim in a rear bedroom. Michael Johnson had been stabbed multiple times in his upper body. Shebloski said the injuries were “catastrophic.”
Police administered life-saving measures until San Diego Fire-Rescue Department paramedics arrived and took over. About an hour after the 911 call, the man died at the scene.
Pablo Johnson was booked into San Diego Central Jail and remains in custody without bail. His arraignment is scheduled for Wednesday afternoon.
