A man died after he was struck by a southbound train in Encinitas on Saturday night, a sheriff’s official said.
The collision, which involved a BNSF freight train was reported about 11:30 p.m. near the intersection of Vulcan Avenue and D Street, said sheriff’s Sgt. Jason King. The man died before he could be taken to a hospital.
The Medical Examiner’s Office will identify the man and determine the cause of death. .
The Sheriff’s Transit Enforcement Unit is investigating the incident. The unit investigates incidents along the routes of the North County Transit District used by BNSF.
