A man died early Monday in a two-alarm fire at a mobile home park in Santee that destroyed one home, officials said.
The fire was reported around 2:25 a.m. at the park on Woodside Avenue near Riderwood Terrace after neighbors noticed smoke and flames coming from a home. When deputies and firefighters arrived they found the mobile home engulfed in flames and called for additional resources.
A man living at the home was standing outside and advised first responders that his father was possibly still inside the burning structure, said sheriff’s Detective Dan Wilson.
While the fire was still burning, Santee firefighters entered the home and quickly began looking for the missing man, Wilson said, finding him in a rear bedroom. He was severely burned and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Detectives from the sheriff’s bomb/arson unit are looking into the origin and cause of the fire. The fire was determined to have started at the rear of the home, but the cause is still under investigation, Wilson said, adding that the fire does not appear to be suspicious.
The name of the man who died was not immediately released. A damage estimate also was not immediately available.
