A man who pleaded guilty to the fatal shooting of a woman in Lincoln Park was sentenced Monday to six years in state prison.
Alex Galvan, 24, was sentenced Monday for the May 14, 2022, killing of Sengny Chea, 31, who was shot multiple times near an apartment complex on South Willie James Jones Avenue. Chea’s 12-year-old son was also injured in the shooting.
The shooting was reported at 2:19 a.m., according to San Diego police, who said gunfire broke out as Chea and her son came upon her son’s father fighting with Galvan and at least one other person in the parking lot of the apartment complex.
Chea died at the scene. Her son was hospitalized for a gunshot wound to one of his legs.
Galvan, who was arrested shortly after the shooting, was hospitalized for a gunshot wound to his wrist.
Earlier this year, a San Diego Superior Court jury acquitted Galvan of first-degree murder and deadlocked as to second-degree murder. Galvan later pleaded guilty to voluntary manslaughter.
