A man was struck and killed by a train in Carlsbad on Monday afternoon, the fourth fatality on the county’s coastal train tracks in five days.
An Amtrak train headed south hit the man near the Carlsbad Village Station about 12:30 p.m., the Sheriff’s Department said. The department investigates train strikes along the train corridor from Santa Fe Depot north to the county line. The line is routinely used by Amtrak and the Coaster commuter train run by the North County Transit District.
Department officials did not say why the man was on the tracks.
Two people died in separate train strikes Thursday. A man out walking his dog off-leash was hit near Sorrento Valley Road about 6:30 a.m. by a southbound Amtrak train. About five hours later, another was hit by a Coaster train near Sassafras Street and Pacific Highway near downtown San Diego.
And about 11: 30 p.m. Saturday, a man was hit by a BNSF freight train near the intersection of Vulcan Avenue and D Street in Encinitas.
The Medical Examiner’s Office had not released the names of the victims as of Monday afternoon.
