SAN DIEGO —
A 65-year-old man was struck and killed Friday night as he walked in a street near a freeway off-ramp in the Midway District, San Diego police said.
The collision happened just after 8:15 p.m. on Camino Del Rio West, Officer Robert Heims said.
A 74-year-old man was driving a Mercedes Sprinter van headed west on Interstate 8, and took the off-ramp that led to Camino Del Rio West.
Not long after the off-ramp turned into Camino Del Rio West, he struck the victim, who had been in the road, Heims said.
The victim, who was homeless, died at the scene.
The van driver and his two passengers were not hurt. Drunken driver is not suspected to be a factor in the collision, Heims said.
