The Mean Girls movie has finally dropped its first look trailer – but fans have been left confused by the lack of music for the musical.
In the first look of the highly anticipated movie, out on January 12, Renee Rapp takes over from Rachel McAdams in the role of Regina George.
However, in this twisted remake, the film is meant to be based on the musical and not the movie – and yet rather than showcase the songs we’re about to see, Olivia Rodrigo track, Get Him Back, is playing over the clips instead.
The decision was not lost on fans of the cult teen favorite – with some even calling out the studio for opting to cut all the musical numbers from the trailer.
“Call me intrigued, but why are they not teasing any of the musical numbers?” one fan wrote on X (previously Twitter). “This is an adaptation of the musical adaptation of the original soon to be 20 yr old film [and] just one teased song in particular would’ve been appropriate. A bit disappointed in that.”

The upcoming Mean Girls movie was inspired by the adaptation that made its way onto Broadway – with Renee Rapp reprising her role as Regina.
She’s joined in the cast by Angourie Rice as Cady Heron (taking over the role made famous by Lindsay Lohan).
Bebe Wood takes over the role of Gretchen, while Avantika plays Karen.
The Summer I Turned Pretty’s Christopher Briney takes over as Aaron Samuels – the boy Cady and Regina go to war over.
Tina Fey, who created the original movie as well as starring in it, will be back as Ms Norbury.
Mean Girls hits cinemas on January 12.
