SAN DIEGO —
A 31-year-old motorcyclist riding without his lights on died after he collided with an SUV in University City Thursday evening, a San Diego police officer said.
The rider was going at a high rate of speed as he headed east down a dark stretch of Governor Drive about 8:15 p.m., Officer Robert Heims said in a news release Friday.
As he approached Erlanger Street on a 2018 KRM dirt bike, a woman driving a silver 2005 Lexus SUV turned left onto Governor in front of the motorcycle. The rider struck the SUV, Heims said.
The motorcycle rider was taken to a hospital, where he died.
Heims said alcohol was not a factor in the collision. Traffic officers are investigating.
