Nationwide Building Society’s banking app is reportedly experiencing an outage in certain services, leaving customers furious and branding it a ‘disgrace’.
Customers began reporting the outage around 2am this morning, with no resolution reported thus far. App users have been left scratching their heads questioning “What is going on?”
Writing on the platform Down Detector, one disgruntled customer said: “Its a disgrace and they don’t even offer any sort of compensation if you end up in the shot cos of their shoddy maintenance operations.” (sic)
They continued: “Its been over 5hrs so far.” (sic)
Another customer wrote: “Why is this bank always down? It’s seriously driving me mad now.”
One Nationwide customer claimed to be stuck abroad with no money. Dave wrote: “Stuck in Cyprus with no money as unable to transfer any money. Joke!!”
Customers have also taken to social platform X to voice their frustrations. User @maespencerx wrote: “This is a joke!! Made me late for work as I can’t even order a cab due to no payments going in or out because of a ‘technical issue’. There is a technical issue every day with this bank?! Twice this has happened now. Get me a new bank, nationwide are shocking @AskNationwide“
X user @PRSRVPRDX said: “I’ve just sent £160 to another bank and the transaction is showing as completed on the app but it has not been received and now I can’t move money between my Nationwide accounts either, what is going on?”
@Diallo68742519 said: “@AskNationwide i transfered money to my nationwide account this morning , can’t see the money in the nationwide app ? What’s going on ?” (sic)
A statement on the building society’s website reads: “All payments to and from other building societies and banks are delayed, and you can’t move money between Nationwide accounts at the moment:
“Sorry for any problems this may cause. We’re working to get things back to normal as quickly as we can.”
Explaining the nature of the issues, Nationwide said at present:

People can’t move money between their Nationwide accounts or to another person’s Nationwide account

Payments to and from other building societies and banks are delayed – people don’t need to resend money as these are in a queue and will arrive ASAP.
However, it noted: “Direct Debits and standing orders are working normally.”
Customers can reportedly still use their cards online and in shops. Additionally, they can continue to log in to Nationwide’s internet bank and banking app.
Customers can also still withdraw money at cash machines.
