Oceanside police are looking for a driver — possibly in a silver Kia sedan — who crashed into a woman riding a bicycle late Sunday night and fled, leaving her critically injured.
No one witnessed the hit-and-run collision, but drivers spotted the victim lying in the road around 11:35 p.m. at the intersection of state Route 76 and Singh Way.
Police said there is no surveillance video of the collision, which occurred near the West Coast Tomato Growers’ packing plant. Pieces of the car that struck her were found at the scene, police said.
The woman, who has not been identified and was not carrying any ID, was flown to a trauma center with major injuries. She remained in critical condition Monday morning, police said.
Police found a crumpled bicycle they believe the woman had been riding about 2 miles away, near the intersection of SR-76 and College Boulevard.
“It was either dislodged from the vehicle or the driver pulled it off the car and left it abandoned,” Oceanside police Officer Jose Gomez said.
Anyone with information about the collision was asked to call police at (760) 435-4952.
