NORTH COUNTY —
One person died when a semitruck plunged down a steep hill along Interstate 15 on Saturday afternoon, according to California Highway Patrol online logs.
The crash happened shortly before 3 p.m. along northbound lanes of the freeway near Gopher Canyon Road, the logs indicate.
Callers reported the 53-foot-long big rig went off the right side of the freeway and down the hill. Old Highway 395 runs along the bottom of the rise.
The agency logs also indicate the tractor-trailer was on its side, the trailer had collapsed, and the entire load of produce it was carrying had spilled.
No further information was immediately available.
