One person is dead after a fire engulfed a Coronado home Friday afternoon, according to city officials.
Jayson Summers, fire chief with the city of Coronado, said first-responders from the Coronado, National City and San Diego fire departments were called to a house on the corner of 6th Street and Adella Lane just after 1 p.m. on Friday. On their way to the residence, he said crews were informed that someone might be trapped inside.
When the first unit arrived a few minutes later, the ground floor of the two-story house was consumed by flames. After attacking the fire and quickly looking for the individual, crews found a person on the first floor, who was pronounced dead, Summers said.
Fire officials said the fire was contained to the residence and fully extinguished within 20 minutes. Summers said the structure is still standing, but there is extensive damage to the inside of both stories.
The cause and origin of the fire are under investigation, Summers said. He declined to confirm the identity of the deceased person.
