Re “SDSU student sues fraternity alleging sexual assault at house party” (Nov. 22): After reading this article about the lawsuits against fraternities and the university that are plagued by problems of drunken tragedies and rapes, I am confused. I thought the legal drinking age was 21 years old. However, the Greek houses at SDSU were “under a mandated ‘dry’ period, an alcohol-free stretch that runs from August to October for any sanctioned events,” the story said.
If the legal age to consume alcohol was enforced rather than sanctioned and allowed, would as many of these incidents occur? How can SDSU and the police allow violations of the law as they clearly do? Students who are drunk in public can be arrested and should be. That would be a significant deterrent and reduce SDSU’s liability problems.
