Plans to honor Peter Seidler in 2024 include a public celebration of life at Petco Park during the weekend of March 22, a patch that will be worn on Padres jerseys and a legacy fund aimed at impacting charitable projects that align with bettering the city, a passion of Seidler’s upon moving to San Diego.
The Padres announced these plans Monday morning in conjunction with Seidler’s family. Seidler died Nov. 14 at the age of 63 after battling an undisclosed illness for months.
A specific date and time for the celebration of life will be announced at a later time. The design and location of the patch to be worn in-season will be announced before the start of spring training.
The Padres Foundation is launching the Peter Seidler Legacy Fund ahead of Giving Tuesday. All donations up to $1 million will be matched by the Padres foundation, Padres players, Padres ownership and the Seidler family, meaning each dollar raised will yield $5 to support projects in underserved communities in San Diego and northern Baja California.
