At least the players think Blake Snell was the NL’s best pitcher.
The Padres’ departing free agent on Thursday was named the NL’s most outstanding pitcher as the 2023 Players Choice Awards were unveiled.
Snell is looking to win his second Cy Young award later this month. His case as the players’ choice for the NL’s best pitcher included having an MLB-low 2.25 ERA, 0.73 runs better than Kodai Senga’s.
Among qualifying starters, Snell also ranked first in opposing average (.180) and hits allowed (115) and second in strikeouts (234). The strikeouts and 32 games started topped Snell’s 2018 AL Cy Young Campaign with the Tampa Bay Rays.
