Padres fans may want to find the hot chocolate stand before they find their seats Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday at San Diego’s Petco Park. Unusually cold weather will give them the shivers, and Tuesday night’s wild winds could whip the caps off their heads and do weird things to baseballs, says the National Weather Service.
The temperature is expected to be 59 degrees at 6:40 p.m. Monday when the Padres begin play against the Cleveland Guardians. The mercury could slip to 56, and perhaps a little lower, by the end of the game.
Tuesday night’s contest, which also starts at 6:40 p.m., will be even colder. The temperature is expected to be about 55 degrees when the first pitch is thrown and is expected to drop into the low 50s by the late innings. Forecasters say fans also will have to cope with winds that could hit 27 mph. Other parts of San Diego could record 30 mph gusts.
Wednesday’s game, which begins at 1:10 p.m., will be a little better. The temperature is expected to be 60 when the contest begins, but could slip into the upper 50s by late in the game. But the normal daytime high in San Diego this time of year is 68.
The weather won’t be any better on Friday when the Padres take on the Chicago Cubs at Wrigley Field, beginning at 1:20 p.m. central time. The daytime high in Chicago is expected to be 50.
