A 66-year-old pedestrian died Sunday after she was struck in a hit-and-run crash on Coast Highway in Encinitas, a sheriff’s official said.
The incident happened shortly before 7 p.m. just north of Leucadia Boulevard, Sgt. Jeremy Collis said in a news release.
Initial reports indicated that the woman was struck in the roadway by a sport utility vehicle that may have been a light color. The driver “immediately fled the scene,” Collis said.
The woman was taken to a hospital, where she died.
The crash remains under investigation. Collis asked that anyone who witnessed the collision or caught video footage of it call the Sheriff’s Office at 858-565-5200. Anonymous tips can be left at San Diego County Crime Stoppers at 888-580-8477 or online at sdcrimestoppers.org.
