A pedestrian was hit and killed while walking early Tuesday on a street in National City, police said.
Officers responded to East Plaza Boulevard just east of Interstate 805 shortly after 5:10 a.m. after getting a report of a vehicle hitting a pedestrian.
Officers performed first aid and CPR on the injured person until paramedics arrived. The pedestrian was transported to a hospital and underwent emergency surgery but did not survive, said National City police Sgt. Kenneth Springer.
The driver of the vehicle stayed at the scene after the collision and cooperated with police, Springer said. The investigation into the crash is ongoing.
No other details, including the name and gender of the person who was killed, were released.
