A pedestrian who was seen walking on a connector road from north Interstate 5 to north state Route 163 near Balboa Park was struck and killed early Sunday, the California Highway Patrol reported.
Motorists began calling 911 around 5:26 a.m to report seeing a person walking in the center divide and in the fast lane on the connector road, according to an online CHP log.
According to the log, the CHP was discussing setting up a traffic break in the area when the person apparently was hit by a vehicle and suffered fatal injuries.
Crews shut down lanes in the area for a period as the crash was investigated. All lanes reopened by shortly after 8 a.m.
No information about the person who was killed was immediately available.
