A pedestrian was killed early Monday after being struck by a car on a freeway in San Ysidro, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The pedestrian was walking across traffic lanes on northbound Interstate 5, south of Dairy Mart Road, about 3:15 a.m. and was struck by a Mitsubishi Endeavor, said CHP Officer Salvador Castro. The pedestrian died at the scene. The victim has not yet been identified, and no further information was released.
The driver, a 75-year-old Tijuana man, stayed at the scene and cooperated with the investigation. He was not determined to be under the influence of drugs or alcohol, Castro said.
A toxicology test on the pedestrian will determine if drugs or alcohol played a factor.
Three lanes of I-5 were closed for about four hours during the investigation.
