SAN DIEGO —
The Medical Examiner’s Office identified this week a 33-year-old pedestrian who was struck and killed by a vehicle while he was walking across a freeway near Balboa Park.
Joseph Robert Held Lyons died soon after motorists began calling 911 on the morning of March 17 to report seeing a man walking in the center divide and in the fast lane of state Route 163 near Interstate 5, officials said.
According to a CHP traffic incident log, officers were discussing setting up a traffic break in the area when Lyons was apparently hit by a vehicle and suffered fatal injuries.
No other information was immediately available.
