A pedestrian walking across a highway in Oceanside Sunday night was struck and killed by a car, police said.
The crash occurred around 6:25 p.m. when a Toyota Prius heading west on state Route 76 crashed into the pedestrian crossing the highway about 100 yards east of Canyon Drive, Sgt. Clint Bussey said in a news release.
The person died before being taken to a hospital. The pedestrian’s identity was not released pending notification of family.
The driver remained at the scene and spoke with investigators. He was not under the influence of drugs or alcohol at the time of the crash, Bussey said.
