A pedestrian trying to cross a street outside of a crosswalk in Mira Mesa was struck and killed by a driver in an SUV Monday night, police said.
The collision was reported just before 7:40 p.m. on Mira Mesa Boulevard and Westview Parkway, San Diego police said.
The man, who was in his 40s, was crossing from north to south in an area where posted signs warn there is no pedestrian crossing allowed, according to police.
He was hit by a 70-year-old driver in a Ford Expedition who was heading west on Mira Mesa Boulevard.
The victim suffered multiple injuries and was taken to a hospital where he died.
Police said the driver was not suspected of being under the influence of alcohol or drugs. The motorist wasn’t hurt and cooperated with traffic officers, police said.
