A mum travelling with her toddler has been praised for refusing to give up her child’s seat to an angry woman.
The incident happened while they were waiting for their plane to board.
The mum shared her story on Reddit, explaining that a woman in her 50s or 60s asked if the toddler could sit on her lap so she could take his seat.
“I just said ‘no sorry he’s happy where he is’,” the post reads. “She got mad and then just stood around looking mad and sighing until a man gave her his seat.”
But many people have supported the mum’s decision not to move her child.

“Why target the two-year-old and his parents? Flying is stressful with kids,” one person wrote.
“She could have asked someone else […] who likely would have given up their seat and not been as affected.”
Another person agreed, saying: “Moving him (and risking him becoming unhappy) could have resulted in extreme unhappiness for many people, and that is a thing worth avoiding.”
A third person called the older woman ‘grumpy’.
However, some users criticised the parent – arguing it wouldn’t have been a big deal to move the child onto her lap.
“If I saw older people standing while my lap seated child was taking a valuable seat I’d move them without anyone asking,” one person said.
“Mother of four here, two-year-olds went on my lap when adults need a seat. No problem.” Another person said offering a seat to your elders is something ‘decent’ people should do.
They added: “We don’t need to quiz them about how badly they need it, we just do it because it’s a nice thing to do. This woman could’ve chosen better.”
