Authorities on Tuesday asked for public help to identify a driver who fled the scene after striking a man who was crossing a North Park Street last week, leaving the victim gravely wounded.
The victim was identified by the Medical Examiner’s Office as Stephen Debow, 42. The Del Mar resident died Monday, six days after the crash, reported about 7:15 p.m, Nov. 21 on Utah Street just south of Polk Avenue.
The car that struck him took off, headed south on Utah, according to a news release from San Diego County Crime Stoppers.
Vehicle parts at the crash site led San Diego police to suspect Debow was struck by a Hyundai Ioniq, model years 2017 to 2022.
The car involved in the collision sustained damage to the front driver’s side of the vehicle, including to the front headlight. It may also have dents and a cracked windshield.
Crime Stoppers is offering a reward of up to $1,000 for information that leads to an arrest.
Anyone with information on the identity or location of the driver or the car that struck the man was asked to call the San Diego police Traffic Division at (858) 573-5002. Anonymous tips can be left by calling Crime Stoppers at (888) 580-8477 or online at sdcrimestoppers.org.
