San Diego police have identified a man killed in Hillcrest in a street assault Saturday as 61-year-old Jerry Puerile.
Witnesses called 911 to report seeing an assailant strangle Puerile and hit his head against the ground shortly after 4:50 p.m. on Washington Street near Fourth Avenue, police said. When officers arrived, they found the unconscious victim lying on the ground near a gas station.
Puerile was taken to a hospital, where he died.
Officers arrested Solomon Guerrero near the intersection of West Washington and Albatross streets. He is being held without bail in county jail and is scheduled to be arraigned Wednesday afternoon on a murder charge.
