Police are investigating the fatal shooting of two teenagers at a house party in El Cajon late Saturday night.
Officers were called to a home on Mahogany Drive near East Washington Avenue just before midnight Saturday after several people called 911 reporting noise from a large party and the sounds of gunfire, the El Cajon Police Department reported. The house was being used as a short-term rental, police said.
Arriving officers saw numerous people fleeing the area.
A preliminary investigation by police found that the two victims — a 16-year-old boy and an 18-year-old man — were shot by an assailant who ran away and then got into a car that drove off, said police Lt. Will Guerin.
One of the teens was found in the front yard and one was in the street, police said. Both were critically wounded and transported to a hospital, where they died.
Investigators believe the shooting was gang-related.
