San Diego police detectives are investigating a string of armed robberies that occurred late Saturday and early Sunday in Golden Hill, Serra Mesa and Kearny Mesa that may have been committed by the same people.
In all, four stores were hit in a 65-minute period, starting with a liquor store that was robbed shortly after 10:50 p.m. Saturday on the corner of 27th Street and B Street in Golden Hill.
Police said four males, thought to be between 15 and 17 years old, entered Golden Hill Liquor, two of them carrying handguns, police Officer John Buttle said.
The two armed suspects ordered the store employee to open the register and took cash and bottles of Hennessey Cognac. The group drove off in a dark-colored sedan.
The second robbery occurred shortly after 11:35 p.m. on Mission Village Drive at Rondo Avenue in Serra Mesa — about 8 miles from the first one.
In that case, three male suspects, all wearing masks, entered the store. Two pointed guns at the employee and one removed cash from the register while the others took liquor and other merchandise, Buttle said. They were last seen running away.
The third occurred a little more than 2 miles away in Kearny Mesa. Three males wearing face masks entered the store on Aero Drive near Afton Road, across from Montgomery-Biggs Executive Airport, around 11:55 p.m. One robber pointed a handgun at the clerk and took money from the register while the other two took cigarettes and other items before running off, Buttle said.
The fourth robbery was also in Kearny Mesa, about 3 miles away. Three males entered a store on Clairemont Mesa Boulevard near Kearny Villa Road shortly after midnight. One robber, who was carrying a gun, walked up to the counter and demanded cash from the register. After getting money, the three drove west on Clairemont Mesa Boulevard in a dark-colored vehicle.
In three of the cases robbers were described as wearing similar clothing. Detectives are trying to determine if the robberies are connected, said police Officer Sarah Foster.
There were no reports of injuries during any of the robberies.
