Three vehicles parked outside Fox 5 San Diego’s Kearny Mesa office were damaged Monday night by a man who used what appeared to be a blow torch to set them ablaze, according to police and the news station.
Someone spotted the fires shortly after 9:30 p.m. on security cameras at the station, which is located on Engineer Road and Cardin Street, the station reported.
The fires caused an estimated $100,000 in damage to the vehicles and other property on the lot, said Sgt. Rick Pechin of San Diego’s Metro Arson Strike Team.
The station said its security cameras show a man using what appears to be a blow torch on a parking gate keypad before moving around to the front parking lot and igniting cars. Video aired by Fox 5 also showed a Jeep parked next to the building on fire, with station employees using fire extinguishers to put it out.
The man was wearing dark clothing and carrying a large backpack, Pechin said.
No injuries were reported. No other details were released.
